Hey, I wanted to go ahead and post the mapping resources Kerri & I talked about last night. Kim asked me to give a full presentation on them at a later date, but I've got a short discussion of them below. If you have any other mapping specific programs you'd like to go over, just message me or post here.

AutoRealm

http://www.autorealm....

A free mapping program. This program has some fairly sophisticated functions, but should have a moderate learning curve, particularly for those familiar with Photoshop, Illustrator, or Google Earth. It comes with an incomplete symbol library, but new symbols are easy to create. Also comes with a list of place names in different flavors (Arab, English, Japanese, etc.)

Campaign Cartographer

A pay program ($40) that appears to give very professional and artistic results with a vast symbol library. I haven't had the opportunity to play with this, but Kerri said she would loan me her copy at the next meetup. Additional resources are available (for additional money, of course).

Arr-Kelaan

Two free, extremely simple hex-mapping and town mapping programs. Extremely easy to use, but doesn't have a lot of functionality. If drag and drop is your thing, this is it. However, if you really want to spend time making your maps, I'd go with something else. This page also has additional tools, such as a calendar maker, weather maker, and auto city generator.
