What is the Speculative Fiction Writers Network, and what does it do?
This group is about networking and helping writers meet other writers. There's a pretty good summary of what we do and who we are here:
http://scifiwriting.m...What is Speculative Fiction? Dare I ask?
Speculative Fiction is an umbrella term that includes Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Magical Realism and Interstitial writing. For more discussion of what the heck Speculative Fiction means, you can check out the spirited discussion our group had over this term in
What's in a Name?Is there a list of published members from this group?
We currently keep a list on the group's
About Page. The core membership of this group is actively writing, submitting and publishing.
I'm a writer, and I love SF, but I am not writing SF. Can I join?
Yes, you're perfectly welcome. However, you may also want to look at the
St. Paul Writers Meetup if you want a general interest writing group.
I'm not a writer, but I love hearing works in progress and hanging out with writers. May I join?
Yes. We have several members who are writer spouses, first readers, editors, or are just generally supportive of writers. Writers need readers, so come and feel welcome.
So who's in charge of this group, anyway?
Hilary Moon Murphy is the official group dis-organizer, but this group relies heavily on member participation. We have many volunteers who head up different activities. For a great "Who's Who" of volunteers, with links and photos, check out the
Leadership FAQ.
The Twin Cities Speculative Fiction Writers Network is an appalling mouthful of a name. Can I abbreviate it?
Yes. The most common abbreviation is TCSFWN. Just don't ask us to pronounce it. ("Twiksfawn?" "Tiksfun?")
Is this just another online group?
Um, no. We actually like to meet face-to-face. We even have multiple events a month to allow people the chance to do this. The events include readings, informal gatherings, a critique workshop, lunch chats with well known authors, and movie nights.
You can find out more about them (and RSVP) here:
http://scifiwriting.m...Confused? Check out our
Events FAQ.
You have a lot of events! Do I have to attend all of them? I don't have that much time.
No, you can pick and choose. Think about it as a restaurant buffet. If all you want is chocolate pudding, then that's fine. Go to the events that interest you.
If this group is about meeting face-to-face, why are there so many virtual members?
Because we're cool. And because we have a very active message board. Speaking of the message board, you should check it out. Really.
http://scifiwriting.m...We even have a
Map Room there to keep you from getting lost.
