I want these local Meetups because I want my work critiqued--and am willing to positively critique others' work. Meetings impose a deadline and imply a work structure that I need and desire.

No way can I address these two divergent topics in so few characters, so you'll have to draw your own conclusions. One thing applies to both, however: I'd like to actually MEET people who share these interests, not just email them...

I'm currently writing a fantasy novel, but have a mystery in the creative hopper. I'm looking for other budding fiction writers who want to critique over a cup of coffee or on a hike... I'm looking to bounce ideas around with like-minded people.

I've been into sci-fi since I saw the original Star Trek (60s), and fantasy with the LOTR (76). I found role-playing (79), adding it to the other games I enjoy, and create. And, like Michele, I write ? mainly fantasy. Brian (mirlin999@yahoo.com)

I like art, music, movies, travel, and Japan. Currently studying Japanese and (unrelated) writing a novel. I am here less for social excuses and more for inspiration, motivation, and project- and interest- oriented communities. Nice to meet ya!

I've been a member of a SF&F critique group for about 8 years. They say you should change groups more often than that to get the most out of a group, so thought I'd look around and see what the rest of the world is doing.

I think I had just seen a Martian when this picture was taken. I'm a computer programmer, poet and amatuer photographer. I like sci fi books and movies. I'd like to write a screenplay or novel, and I'd like to live on Mars or the moon.

I work at UW Medical Center, where one of the fun things they let me do is edit a quarterly newsletter (circ. 2,500). But to further satisfy my creative urges I like to write fiction, both mainsteam and SF. I'm also an avid photographer.

Fremont-dwelling software engineer Rachel by day, I'm an aspiring SF/fantasy author under my pen name -- Alex Piper -- in my spare time. I'm not published (yet), but I can often be found at the Peet's Coffee in Fremont scribbling away on drafts.

I write SF. I've sold a few short stories and won the Writers of the Future gold prize. I'm currently marketing a novel. My favorite authors include Sawyer, Stross, and Bujold, as well as old classics like Heinlein and Norton.

I may be more conservative than most here, but I'm not sure why being a conservative requires one to also be a criminal, socially irresponsible or morally bankrupt. So maybe I'm not as conservative as I think.
